Africa Youth Chess Championship 2026 Concludes with Record Turnout in Cairo

The 2026 Africa Youth Chess Championship (AYCC) reached a thrilling conclusion in Cairo, Egypt, marking the largest continental youth chess gathering in ACC history with over 400 junior players competing across the Under-8 to Under-18 age categories.

Hosted under the auspices of the Egyptian Chess Federation and the Africa Chess Confederation, the nine-round Swiss event served as a direct continental qualifier for the FIDE World Youth and Cadet Championships 2027.

Egypt, South Africa, Algeria, and Nigeria led the medal standings, displaying exceptional technical preparation and tactical prowess across both Open and Girls divisions.

ACC President Benard Wanjala commended the tournament arbiters, national delegations, and young athletes during the closing ceremony, noting that the depth of talent on display reinforces youth development as Africa's most strategic chess investment.
